Microsoft Dynamics RMS 2.0 FP2 Feature Spotlight - Multiple Currencies in Headquarters Purchase Orders

$
0
0

In releases before Microsoft Dynamics RMS 2.0 Feature Pack 2 (FP2), foreign supplier currencies were not displayed correctly in the Headquarters PO Planner worksheet, Purchase Order Details form, or printed purchase orders. Instead, the currency symbol for the default Windows Currency would be displayed.

Starting with FP2, the PO Planner, Purchase Order Details form, and printed purchase orders now display the correct symbols for supplier with foreign currencies.

To verify that the new functionality added as part of FP2 is working correctly, you can follow these reproduction steps:

  1. Create a currency (Database | Currencies) that uses a symbol ($, ¥, £, €, etc) other than what is configured in Windows in your Region and Language Settings.
  2. Assign this currency to a supplier as its "Accepted Currency".
  3. Create a "Style 340: PO Planner" worksheet to create a purchase order with items from the supplier (from step 2) with a foreign currency assigned as is "Accepted Currency".
  4. Note that the currency is correct in the PO Planner worksheet, Purchase Order Details form, and the printed purchase order.

Are you having unexpected issues or problems with your Electronic Draft Capture (EDC) transactions?

$

Hello everyone,

Before you call into Microsoft Dynamics Retail Technical Support, I would encourage you to contact your Acquiring Bank and TSYS to make sure that your Electronic Draft Capture (EDC) configuration is correct. This is typically the first step we in Technical Support will try. Having you contact the bank and processor first can frequently prevent you from having to open up a Support Request.

When you first signed up with your bank, you should have received a "Welcome Letter" that included a list of numbers to use for your EDC configuration. This sheet frequently referred to as a VAR sheet or a V-Sheet.

Occasionally, these numbers may change or update without notice at the bank or processor and sometimes within the register itself.

If you start to notice credit/debit card failures unexpectedly, it is always a good idea to contact your bank or processor and have them compare your numbers to theirs to make sure that everything matches up. This will also give your bank or processor an opportunity to make sure that everything else in the account is set up correctly.

It is very important to compare every character from the VAR sheet to the Configuration setup. The following are two examples of actual causes that we have seen in recent support requests:

Incorrect Credit Gateway:   ssl1.tsysacquiring.net/scripts/gateway.dll?transact
Correct Credit Gateway:      ssl1.tsysacquiring.net/scripts/gateway.dll?transac

Incorrect Merchant Number:           888001234901
correct Merchant Number:              888001243901

Do you see the difference? You can probably see how this can easily be overlooked.

For more information about how to configure your EDC setup in Microsoft Dynamics RMS 2.0, please see the following KB article (CustomerSource access is required to access this article):

How to set up the Preferred Acquirer Credit/Debit Card Processing feature in Microsoft RMS Store Operations for credit and debit cards
https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/documentation/howtodocuments/preferred_acquirer_setup_so

For more information about how to configure your EDC setup in Microsoft Dynamics POS 2009, please see the following CustomerSource How To article (CustomerSource access is required to access this article):

How to Set Up the Preferred Acquirer Credit/Debit Card Processing Feature in Microsoft Point of Sale https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/documentation/howtodocuments/msposcreditdebit.htm

I hope that the suggestions in this article will help you resolve your issue more quickly and possibly prevent you from having to create a Support Request.

What to do when you need a Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System or POS 2009 product key; or when you have problems activating the product key

$
0
0

The RMS and POS Technical Support team does not have direct access to product keys.

If you have a need to access new or existing product keys please try the following options:

1. CustomerSource

  • If you purchased your product after April 2011, and are currently enrolled in an active Service Agreement with Microsoft Dynamics, you should be able to sign in to CustomerSource and view your product key.

http://www.microsoft.com/dynamics/customer/en-US/access-customersource/default.aspx

  • In CustomerSource point to Select My Account; and then click Product and Service Summary. On the Product and Services summary page locate the product you are needing keys for and click Registration Keys. Once you select the Version click Display License Keys. The product keys should be displayed at the bottom of the page.

NOTE: If the PID (Product ID) Key column states "Please refer to PID card for key." the keys are not stored in the system.

2. Contact Sales Operations

  • The Sales Operations Team may be able to issue a new product key if necessary; and may also be able to view existing product keys depending on when you purchased the product. If you purchased the Product key before April 2011 you will have to refer to the PID (Product ID) card that was provided.  If you do not have a copy of the PID card you can check with your partner, see below, or Sales Operations may be able to issue you a replacement.

3. Contact your Microsoft Partner.

  • It is possible that if you had a Microsoft Partner install your system that they kept a copy of the PID (Product ID) card.

If you experience any problems with activating your RMS or POS product over the Internet please try to activate the product over the telephone. These are the only 2 ways to activate the RMS / POS product.

Hopefully this blog will help you resolve any issues you may encounter.

Have a great week!

Inconsistencies between the Item Movement History report and the Item Quantity List report

$
0
0

Have you wondered why some numbers in your Item Movement History report do not seem to jive with the numbers in the Item Quantity reports?

The reason for this is that the reports were designed for different purposes; and we do not recommend using the Item Movement History report to track current inventory quantities.

Some of the reasons for this include:

  • The Item Movement History report was designed to track an item's movement, not the item's current quantity.
  • If you run the Item Movement History report without any filters to view the current quantity, the report could take an abnormally long time to generate. This is because the report has to generate and load data for all the item movement that has occurred since the store was opened.
  • There is a default Item Quantity List report in Store Operations that will produce a more accurate representation of your item's current quantities.
  • The Item Movement History report does not consider items that are on hold, are in the Offline database, are on a Work Order, or on a Layaway.

There are also several things that can cause the Item Movement History report quantity totals to be inaccurate when you compare it to the quantity totals in the Item Quantity list report.

Some of these things include:

  • If you have ever updated an item's quantity with a third-party program, a record of the movement may not be recorded in the InventoryTransferLog table. Therefore, the totals in the Item Movement History report may not be accurate.
  • If you have ever updated an item's quantity with a SQL statement, a record of the movement will not be recorded in the InventoryTransferLog table. Therefore, the totals in the Item Movement History report may not be accurate.
  • There were some Product Defects in earlier versions of Microsoft Dynamics RMS that caused issues with records in the InventoryTransferLog table.
  • If Items were imported into the database with a quantity, the Item Movement History report will not account for this imported quantity because the Store Operations Import Utility does not record a record in the InventoryTransferLog table for the imported quantity.

Do not let this discourage you from using the Item Movement History Report for what its true purpose is, which is to track the various movement of your items. Movement types include the following:

  • Purchase Order receipts
  • Inventory Transfer In
  • Inventory Transfer Out
  • Transaction Return to the Offline database
  • Transaction Return to the Main database
  • Transfer to the Main database from the Offline database
  • Transfer to the Offline database from the Main database
  • Manual Adjustment
  • QuickAssist (Inventory Wizard Adjustments)
  • Physical Inventory Adjustment
  • Headquarters Adjustment
  • Parent Child Adjustment
  • Kit Component Transfer
  • Headquarters Manual Adjustment
  • Sales

I hope that the information in this blog will help you better understand the differences and purposes of the Item Movement History and Item Quantity List reports.

This hotfix rollup corrects 6 issues in Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) Store Operations 2.0 and in Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) Headquarters 2.0. The build number of this hotfix rollup is 2.0.1005.

This hotfix rollup resolves the following issues:

  • The Purchase Order and Inventory Transfer reports in Microsoft Dynamics RMS Headquarters and in Microsoft Dynamics RMS Store Operations are updated incorrectly if one or more of the following conditions are true:
    • The PO Date filter is applied.
    • The Order Date filter is applied.
    • There is an OR criterion together with a date filter.
    • The Negative Expression filter is applied.
  • Assume that you filter a report by a column that contains a date range and one other column in Microsoft Dynamics RMS Headquarters or Microsoft Dynamics RMS Store Operations. When you run the report, the report displays no result.
  • After you perform certain operations in Microsoft Dynamics RMS Store Operations POS, the VeriFone MX860 payment terminal screen does not clear.
  • When you process debit-card transactions in Microsoft Dynamics RMS Store Operations POS, the VeriFone MX860 payment terminal screen displays the last selected item instead of the total tender amount.
  • When you tender a transaction that has multiple tender types in Microsoft Dynamics RMS Store Operations POS, the signature capture dialog box appears only on POS. The dialog box does not appear on the VeriFone MX860 payment terminal screen.

This hotfix includes a new switch for Headquarters Client that causes any warning messages that are generated by the program to be suppressed. To take advantage of this new quiet mode, you have to change the command line on the Headquarters Client shortcut that resembles the following:
      "c:\Program Files\Microsoft Retail Management System\Headquarters Client\HQClient.exe" -q
    • Hotfix rollup 2784931 is available for Microsoft Dynamics RMS Store Operations 2.0 and for Microsoft Dynamics RMS Headquarters 2.0
      https://mbs2.microsoft.com/Knowledgebase/KBDisplay.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;2784931

Hello everyone,

Today we are excited to announce the release of Hotfix Rollup 2821635!

You can download Hotfix 2821635 (#37) via the following Knowledge Base Link:
https://mbs2.microsoft.com/Knowledgebase/KBDisplay.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;2821635

For a list of all previously released Feature Packs, Service Packs, and Hotfixes for Microsoft Dynamics RMS 2.0, click the following link:
https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/downloads/hotfixes/20sphf-v2

This hotfix rollup corrects 3 issues in Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) Store Operations 2.0 and in Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) Headquarters 2.0. The build number of this hotfix rollup is 2.0.1006.

This hotfix rollup resolves the following issues:

  • You cannot remove or reset a previously configured button on the task pad in Microsoft Dynamics RMS Store Operations Manager. After you apply this hotfix rollup, a new button type that is called Unassigned is available in the Button Type drop-down list in the Task Pad Properties dialog box. You can use the Unassigned button to reset task pad buttons.
  • When you import data into a "Style 251: Update Inventory - Item Prices" worksheet in Microsoft Dynamics RMS Headquarters Manager, you receive the following error message:
Run-time error '91': Object variable or With block variable not set.
  • Assume that you highlight a purchase order in the purchase order list in Microsoft Dynamics Store Operations Manager. Then, you perform sales transactions in Microsoft Dynamics Store Operations POS on another computer. In this situation, the position of the highlighted purchase order in the list is changed unexpectedly.

Notes

  • This hotfix is a cumulative hotfix that includes all the hotfixes that were released since Microsoft Dynamics RMS 2.0 Feature Pack 2 (FP2). The following previously released hotfixes include additional steps that have to be followed if you are experiencing particular issues that are included in these hotfixes:
    • Hotfix rollup 2735491 is available for Microsoft Dynamics RMS Store Operations 2.0 and for Microsoft Dynamics RMS Headquarters 2.0
      https://mbs2.microsoft.com/Knowledgebase/KBDisplay.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;2735491

This hotfix includes a new switch for Headquarters Client that causes any warning messages that are generated by the program to be suppressed. To take advantage of this new quiet mode, you have to change the command line on the Headquarters Client shortcut that resembles the following:
      "c:\Program Files\Microsoft Retail Management System\Headquarters Client\HQClient.exe" -q
    • Hotfix rollup 2784931 is available for Microsoft Dynamics RMS Store Operations 2.0 and for Microsoft Dynamics RMS Headquarters 2.0
      https://mbs2.microsoft.com/Knowledgebase/KBDisplay.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;2784931

This hotfix includes updates to three triggers that provide performance improvements for some customers who experience performance issues when they process transactions. You can take advantage of these changed triggers by running the SQL statements that are available for download in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 2784931.

Note If you did not install these hotfixes, or if you did not follow the additional steps that are required for some fixes in these KB articles, see the articles to determine whether you experience any of the issues that require you to follow additional steps.

As always, we recommend that you contact your Microsoft Dynamics® Partner before installing feature packs, service packs, or hotfixes. It is important to verify that your environment is compatible with the feature packs, service packs, or hotfixes being installed. A feature pack, service pack, hot fix, or download may cause interoperability issues with customizations, and third-party products that work with your Microsoft Dynamics® solution.

Have a great week!

Have you found that your HTML Status Bar in Microsoft Dynamics RMS Store Operations POS displays a white screen and does not populate with your custom data?

This issue is caused by Internet Explorer 10.0 and it's inability to interpret the code correctly from the previous HTML Status Bar code.

I have written an article that provides instructions on how to update your custom HTML Status Bar files as well as downloads for the replacement files for customers who are using the default HTML Status bar.

Please click the following link to download the HTML Status Bar Fix Instruction document:

Note Consult with your Microsoft Certified Partner to have this functionality added to additional reports.
  • New configuration option to disallow manual entry of weights when a scale is in use on a register - The store manager can now configure whether cashiers are allowed to manually enter the weight of an item while a scale is attached to the register. Other Improvements

  • During label printing, long item descriptions overwrite the adjacent labels.
  • The Sold Price values in the Detailed Sales report are incorrect.
  • The days of the week headers in the graphs calendar in POS View display as Monday through Sunday instead of Sunday through Saturday. The days of the week do not line up with the correct days of the month.
  • You receive the following error message when you try to tender a transaction with a debit card:
A problem occurred during payment processing verification.
Details: Error receiving response from Vital. Failed to Read SSL Stream.
  • Credit cards that do not pass the Luhn algorithm fail to process. To resolve this issue, a new configuration option has been added to the Advanced Options dialog box for credit card payment methods.
  • In limited scenarios, vouchers (gift cards) can be redeemed for more than their value.

Microsoft Dynamics RMS 2.0 Cumulative Update 5 Released

Microsoft Dynamics RMS 2.0 Cumulative Update 5 (CU5) has been released on CustomerSource and PartnerSource. This update is available to all customers who subscribe to a Microsoft Dynamics Maintenance Plan.

PartnerSource

CustomerSource
https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/northamerica/RMSPOS/downloads/service-packs/RMS-20-CU5

Microsoft Dynamics RMS 2.0 Cumulative Update 5 (CU5) is cumulative and contains all hotfixes that were released after Feature Pack 2 (FP2).

New Features

Cumulative Update 5 includes the following new features:

  • Integration with Microsoft Dynamics Online Payment Services. This integration provides up-to-date access to Microsoft Dynamics Online services and, through the Payment Services software development kit, provides new customization options for partners and payment processors who want additional payment options.

    Note
The previous Microsoft Dynamics Online integration (sometimes referred to as "version 1") no longer appears as an option on the EDC tab of the Configuration dialog box in Store Operations Administrator. If you have been using that option, your settings will be preserved in the registry and you can continue to do so. However, we strongly encourage you to move to the latest integration, which has been validated against the latest PCI Payment Application Data Security Standard. For more information about how to update your system, see "Integrating EDC software" in Store Operations Administrator Online Help.

  • In support of current industry standards, Store Operations now sends reversals instead of refunds for voids of debit purchase and return transactions and for transactions that time out.

  • Store Operations now rejects payment processing connections that do not use strong ciphers (128 bits or higher).

    Notes

    • This change was implemented as part of our validation against version 2.0 of the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Payment Application Data Security Standard and our effort to keep Microsoft Dynamics RMS PCI compliant.

    • Changes to your environment might be necessary to maintain PCI compliance in your organization. For more information, see the most up-to-date PCI Data Security Standard for merchants and see the latest version of the Microsoft Dynamics RMS Implementation Guide for PCI Compliance, available in the Cumulative Update 5 Downloads section on the CU5 download page.

Changed Functionality

Cumulative Update 5 includes the following changes in functionality:

  • The "-q" switch introduced in hotfix rollup 2735491 for suppression of warning messages in Headquarters Client has been added to Headquarters Server, Voucher Server, and Voucher Client. To suppress warning messages for these programs, change the shortcut for the program so that it looks something like this (with the path adjusted for your system and with the correct executable name):

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Retail Management System\Headquarters\HQServer" –q

  • The following obsolete payment options have been removed from the EDC tab of the Configuration dialog box in Store Operations Administrator.

    • PC-Charge

    • ICVerify

    • Atomic Authorizer

    • WinTI / European EFT

Note These integrations have not been PCI validated and are no longer supported by Microsoft. Customers who wish to continue using these options can do so by explicitly setting the registry key for these integrations to True. The registry key is:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Retail Management System\Store Operations\POSUser\EDC\<Payment Option>

  • The behavior of Style 251: Update Inventory – Item Prices worksheet has been updated. The Cost and Profit Margin columns have been made read only to prevent costs set by the store manager from being inadvertently overwritten.

  • The Original PO number has been added to the PO receipt in Headquarters Manager and Store Operations Manager.

  • The item list in both Store Operations Manager and Headquarters Manager opens with active items shown by default. As before, if you make another selection in the list, this selection is preserved through the session.

Other Improvements

In addition to the new features changed functionality listed above, Cumulative Update 5 includes fixes for the following issues:

  • You receive the following error message when you process debit transactions:

"Connection error: Authorization response contained NAK or ENQ. Please try again. None = 0, Source = "

  • You receive an error when you try to settle credit or debit transactions that were voided in Terminal Offline mode.

  • When you export a new store database from Headquarters with Microsoft SQL Server 2012, the centrally maintained data is not populated and the store ID is incorrect.

  • You receive the following run-time error message when you try to approve a Style 251: Update Inventory – Item Prices worksheet that is missing a date field:

"Run-time error '-2147217887 (80040e21)': Multiple-step operation generated errors. Check each status value."

  • Incorrect opening amounts are shown in the Inventory Valuation report.

  • Deadlock issues can occur when you tender transactions or work on purchase orders on multiple registers, or when you run reports on one machine while transactions are being processed on other registers.

  • The Help button in the Top Cashier report in Headquarters Manager does not work as expected.

  • Matrix item component costs are not updated correctly when new matrix items are created.

Have a great week!
